The Benson Police Department is actively seeking information from the public, regarding these two recent crimes:

On June 10, 2008, a total of six (6) vehicles were damaged, by having their Catalytic Converters cut away from them. The vehicles were parked at both the American Legion Building, located at 605 North Wall Wall Street, and M&H Auto, located at 315 North Wall Street. Investigators have determined that the unknown suspect(s) most likely used a battery-powered reciprocating saw to cut the converters away. It is believed that the converters will be, or possibly have been sold to local scrap metal dealers.

On June 12, 2008, a Breaking, Entering, and Larceny was discovered at the Southern Woods & Water Conv. Store, located at 3405 NC Hwy. 242 North in Benson. The crime occurred around 4:00 AM, and a review of the security footage revealed that at least two subjects, believed to be White Males, entered the business from a rear door, and took a large, but unknown quantity of cigarettes from the business. Evidence was found that would indicate that their vehicle had been parked on a dirt path to the North side of the parking lot, and this vehicle is believed to be an older model small framed truck. Both subjects seen on the video were wearing dark colored clothing and also gloves, and their faces were covered.

Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious, or who has any information about these two thefts is encouraged to contact the Benson Police Department at 919-894-2091. Information may also be emailed to the Investigations Division at crimeline@bensonpd.org .
