With much sadness and regret, the Benson Police Department announces the passing of one of its own.
Sergeant Ronnie Dale McLamb, age 25, of Zebulon, NC, was found deceased on Monday, November 15th. Sergeant McLamb's personal vehicle was discovered submerged in creek at the Johnston / Harnett county line on Highway 301 South, approximately 1 mile from the Benson city limits. The Harnett County Sheriff's Department, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, were called to the scene, and are conducting the investigation.
Sergeant McLamb had been promoted to his present rank only two weeks ago, and had been a valued member of our department for approximately four years. He was well liked by his fellow officers, and respected and admired for his dedication to the department, the public, and the community he served. He will be sorely missed, and always remembered.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. A Memorial Fund is being set up for his family at State Employees Credit Union, and donations may be made at any local branch office.
