On May 13, 2006, at approximately 12:24 AM, officers of the Benson Police Department, to include Sgt. WN Brown, Sr/Ptl. CK Ryals, and Ptl. SA Richards responded to 603 East Parrish Drive in Benson, after a report of an unknown woman screaming was called in to Johnston Central Communications. Upon their arrival, the officers knocked on the front door, heard a woman in apparent distress inside, and made a forced entry into the residence.

Upon their entry, they observed a White Male on top of a White Female in the living room area. The female was bleeding from the face, and was only partially clothed. The male subject was detained and removed from the residence, and the female was taken to Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield for treatment.

The subsequent investigation into this incident, conducted by Lieutenant Greg Percy, led to charges being filed against Donald Vaughan Balmer (DOB 10-7-54), the resident of 603 East Parrish Drive. Balmer was charged with one count of Attempted First Degree Rape, and one count of First Degree Kidnapping, and he is currently in the Johnston County Jail with no bond.

One additional charge of Felony Assault by Strangulation was obtained on today's date, and will be served on Balmer at the Johnston County Jail. The investigation into this incident continues.

For any additional information, please contact Chief Kenneth Edwards at 919-894-2091. A photo of Balmer is available from the Johnston County Jail.
