In conjunction with the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission, Chief of Police Kenneth Edwards would like to announce that Lieutenant Greg Percy was awarded his Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate on May 19, 2006.

Lt. Percy attended the quarterly meeting of the Commission, held at Kill Devil Hills, NC, and was presented with his certificate by Commission Chairman John Glenn. He was one of eight law enforcement officers who personally attended the awards ceremony, and one of approximately 125 officers who received the award statewide.

The NC Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission Professional Certificate Program is designed to reward and recognize officers who continually strive to better themselves professionally, by attending various schools and training sessions, above and beyond what is currently mandated by the State of North Carolina. Officers must also have several years of full-time experience as well. Lt. Percy was awarded his certificate based on over nine years of experience, fifty-six hours of college credits, and approximately 450 hours of law enforcement training.

Chief Edwards stated, "A well trained officer is a benefit to both the community they serve, and to their agency, and I encourage our officers to seek out training opportunities. He added, " We now have three Benson officers with Advanced Certificates, and I congratulate Greg on his accomplishment."

For any additional information, please contact Chief Edwards at 919-894-2091.
