On Monday, July 21, 2008 at approximately 11:48 PM, a Shooting was reported to the Benson Police Department. Officers quickly responded to the scene, located at 702 West Parrish Drive in Benson, and upon arriving at the residence, located one victim in the front yard.
The victim, identified as Tony Lewis Barnes (W/M -54), of 700 West Parrish Drive in Benson, sustained a gunshot wound to the head, and was immediately transported to Wake Medical Center for treatment. At last report, he was in Critical Condition, but no further information is currently available.
A police investigation into the incident has determined that a verbal and physical confrontation took place between several subjects, including the victim, and that a family member fired the shot that struck Mr. Barnes. The investigation is continuing at this time, and additional details will be released as they become available.

After an extensive investigation into this incident, all evidence and documentation associated with this case were submitted to the Johnston County District Attorney's Office, and upon their review, a decision was reached that no criminal charges would be filed against the family member who fired the weapon.
