On Monday, August 8, at approximately 6:20 AM, a possible shooting was reported to the Benson Police Department. Officers quickly responded to the scene, located at 704 West Church Street in Benson, and upon entering the residence, located two victims. One was pronounced dead at the scene, and he was identified as Terrence Olando Savage (B/M-32). The second victim, identified as Tammie White Savage (B/F-36), succumbed to her injuries while enroute to Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn.
The initial investigation has determined that an apparent Murder/Suicide occurred this morning between 5:00 AM and 6:20 AM. A juvenile in the home observed Tammie Savage in bed with a gunshot wound, and then witnessed Terrence Savage commit suicide. She subsequently left the residence with another young juvenile, and notified the authorities.
Both victims had one gunshot wound each, and a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun was recovered close to the victims. Tammie Savage had been shot once in the head, and Terrence Savage had been shot once in the lower right abdomen. Both victims have been sent to the Medical Examiner's Office for further investigation.
